The owner of a crypto wallet with 43.6 bitcoins worth $3 million (270,000,000 rubles) was able to restore access to his account after 11 years.

The owner encrypted his wallet with 43.6 BTC and forgot the password in 2013. Over 11 years, the value of his investments grew from a couple of thousand to almost 3 million. The owner, in an attempt to restore access, turned to a hacker with the nickname Kingpin, who had previously restored access to an encrypted wallet with BTC worth $2 million.

Initially, the wallet password was created using the Roboform random number generator. In an ideal world, all such passwords should be unique and never repeated. In reality this is not the case. β€œIn older versions of the generator, if you can get back the time the password was created, you can get back the password itself.” Knowing this and using a utility developed by the US National Security Agency (NSA), Grand spent several months reconstructing the moment when that password was created in 2013 and again received the same password. Thanks to this, the wallet opened.

Let's be happy for his millions.
